Bianca Catherine Knight
Bianca Catherine Knight has overcome a serious vision disability and has found considerable success in the field of law. She was 28 and living in Texas when she received a diagnosis of sudden-onset Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), a condition characterized by a drastic degeneration of the retinal ganglion cells of the eye. This condition would ultimately render Bianca Catherine Knight legally blind.
While affected by LHON, Ms. Knight relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where she became a community organizer with the Tennessee Disability Coalition and attended the Belmont University College of Law. Over the course of her law school career, she earned multiple scholarships, including a Sam Genesky Video Magnifier Award, the Floyd Qualls Memorial Scholarship from the American Council of the Blind, and Belmont University’s Bruin Scholarship for Academic Performance. After receiving her juris doctor, she went into practice with a focus on the fields of disability advocacy and public interest law.
